Television Stations
The headquarters of the main TV Stations are located in Yangon. There are two local TV channels: TV Myanmar and Myawaddy with programs running from 7 am to 4 am; and from 4 pm to 11 pm. Most hotels also have satellite TV. Myawaddy was started on the 27th March, 1995. The average broadcasting hours is about 8 hours per day when it started. But now there's MWD, MNTV, MITV, MRTV, MRTV4, Channel 7, Channel 9 and more.
MWD - MWD is a 24-hour free-to-air television channel that broadcasts entertainment programs. Myawaddy is a Myanmar military-owned television network based in Yangon and Naypyitaw that broadcasts MWD Documentary and Entertainment, MWD Shopping, MWD Music, MWD Series, MWD Movie TV Channels. MWD Documentary and MWD Shopping Channels are transmitted in both Analogue and Digital system. All are free-to-air channels, broadcasting a variety of TV programs.
MNTV - Myanmar National TV (MNTV) is a 24-hour free-to-air television channel that broadcasts entertainment programs. It is run by Sky Net (Skynet DTH), a satellite television operator in Myanmar.
MITV - MITV is a 24-hour free-to-air television channel that broadcasts intended for international and local English speaking consumers, launched on 31st March 2010 based in Yangon. It is a celebration of all aspects of Myanmar culture from the ancient to the brand new. A platform to represent the people of Myanmar, in english language, free to view and available 24 hours a day. An accurate, balanced, independent and up to date source of Myanmar information. The soul of the MITV television channel is born from its local news, that gives a stage and a voice to local people and their stories. A chance for Myanmar to speak to the world and the world to connect with Myanmar.
MRTV - MRTV, Myanma Radio and Television is a free-to-air television channel that mainly broadcasts Local news. Radio service in Myanmar first came on air in 1936 during the British colonial era. Regular programming by Bama Athan began in February 1946 when the British established Burma Broadcasting Service (BBS), carrying Burmese language national and foreign news and musical entertainment, knowledge reply and school lessons and English language news and music programming. After independence in 1948, it was named Myanma Athan . The service was renamed Myanmar Radio in 1988. The junta has also renamed the radio service's parent, BBS as Myanmar Radio and Television (MRTV) in 1997. Until the launch of Yangon City FM in 2001, BBS/Myanmar Radio was the only radio station in the country. For years, its main broadcast center is at 426 Pyay Road in Kamayut in Yangon. Since late 2007, the main broadcast station has moved to Naypyidaw. Yangon Station now mostly relays Naypyidaw Station's programming.
MRTV 4 - It was launched on (15-5-2004) like a streaming video via satellite. MRTV 4 contains non-formal education programs and other entertainment programs. But for receiving, it can be matched by MMBox (Myanmar Media Box). This transmission contains educational programs from Ministries, Myanmar movies, English movies with Myanmar subtitles, cartoon programs and other entertainment programs. The transmission time is from 7 am to 11pm daily. For more quality and convenience, MRTV 4 will soon be broadcasting with Digital Video Broadcasting Technology (DVBT) terrestrial system.
Channel 7 - Channel 7 is a 24-hour free-to-air television channel that broadcasts entertainment programs. It is run by Forever Group.
Channel 9 - Channel 9 is a 24-hour free-to-air television channel that broadcasts entertainment programs. It is run by Sky Net (Skynet DTH), a satellite television operator in Myanmar.
Newspaper
Three morning newspapers Myanmar Ah Lin and Kye mon in Myanmar and The New Light of Myanmar in English are published in Yangon and The Yadanabon News in Myanmar is published in Mandalay. Myanmar Times Journal (English Version) is distributed every Monday, and the Myanmar Version is distributed ever Friday. Both journals are published in Yangon. The locally published magazines in English; Golden Myanmar, Myanmar Chronicle, and Myanmar Perspective, are available in bookshops. Foreign newspapers such International Herald Tribune, as Singapore Straits Times and some foreign magazines and periodicals are available at In-wa (Ava) Bookshop, No.232, Sule Pagoda Road.

Night Life
Night life in Yangon used to be quite uncommon and was rarely heard of in the past. Nowadays, people in Yangon are starting to enjoy the night in many different ways. Men usually like to spend their time at night drinking beer and eating barbeque at the local beer stations while chatting energetically with each other. The young adults usually like to enjoy their nights in festive moods in various clubs and KTVs around Yangon until dawn. Some people also spend the night going around Yangon while trying out foods from restaurants and food stalls that open throughout the night.
