Hnin Si Gone Home for Aged
info Hnin Si Gone Home for Aged (နှင်းဆီကုန်းဘိုးဘွားရိပ်သာကြီး) is located on Kabar Aye Pagoda Road in Bahan Township, Yangon.
It was originally established on 1st January 1933 by Daw Oo Zun and was opened until World War II broke out. After it was deserted and closed down, some helpless eldery who were left in Yangon took refuge in it. Aware of this situation, U Tin who was the General Manager of Myanmar Alin daily newspapers helped reopen the house on 4th April 1943 along with the help of some Venerable Elder Monks and donors. Towards the end of the World War II, U Tin who was by then the second founder and the first President of this Management Committee, an early forerunner of a Non Government Organization ( NGO ), a non-profit humanitarian institution dedicated to work for the care of helpless homeless aged, realized that the location of the home was not suitable for future growth. So he found a suitable location, a 7 acres of undeveloped land not far from central Yangon at Bahan Township in 1952. The new home was than completed in April of 1955 and was formally inaugurated by the Honourable Prime Minister U Nu on 20th March 1957. So far 240 elders, the highest number in the country are given accommodation here.
