info The Allied War Memorial Cemetery (also known as Taukkyan War Cemetry or Htauk Kyant War Memorial Cemetry (ထောက်ကြံ့ စစ်သင်္ချိုင်း) ) is located at Htauk Kyant, Mingaladon Township, 32km from Yangon, on the way to Bago. It was built in 1951 and it is a memorial cemetery of the Allied soldiers who died in the Myanmar Campaign during World War II.
The cemetery is peaceful and its beautifully kept grounds has memorial pillars (The Rangoon Memorial) with the names of over 27,000 fallen Commonwealth soldiers (Indian Army and African soldiers) who died during World War II, 6,374 graves of soldiers who died in World War II, 52 graves of soldiers who died in World War I and 867 graves of unidentified soldiers. Htauk Kyant War Memorial Cemetery is the largest of the three war cemeteries in Myanmar and is one of the most visited war sites in Asia.
