info The Sule Pagoda (ဆူးလေဘုရား) is a well-known landmark, located at the heart of Yangon, in downtown.

It is said to be built over 2,600 years old and that it contains a hair relic given by the Buddha to two Burmese merchants. The pagoda was named after Sularata, the Sule Nat (spirit) who lived at the spot where the pagoda was built. The golden pagoda is unusual in that its octagonal shape continues right up to the bell and inverted bowl. It used to be smaller when it was first built and it was enlarged from renovations made by the Kings throughout the history, reaching its present height of 44 metres. It is surrounded by small shops and all the familiar non-religious services such as of astrologists, palmists, and so on.
